Visit to Anti-narcotic cell, Calicut city Police as part of Clinical Legal Education.
Drug abuse is a recurring problem society faces now a days. Knowing the Statutes and ensuring its strict implementation is the best way to deal with this growing menace. The students and faculties of Department of Law, made a visit to Anti-Narcotics cell of Calicut City Police on 15.07.2023 to give a session on ‘Features of NDPS Act 1985 in curbing growing Drug abuse’. Prakashan Padannayil, ACP, Anti-narcotics Cell, Sruthy, Assistant professor, Department of Law coordinated the event.
Legal Literacy Class on Road Safety
Imparting legal education is one of the objectives to be achieved by taking a post graduate course in Law. Motor Vehicle accident increase year by year. Cavalier attitude of motor vehicles and ignorance of law is the major cause for exponential increase in accidents in now a day.
The students of Department of Law, visited City Traffic Unit on 24.06.2023 1.07.2023, and 08.07.2023 for taking lectures on Motor vehicle Act and general law related with road safety. Official in the MVD and general public attended the meeting and sought clarifications on doubts regarding these subjects.
NAAC Procession Prize Distribution
The coordinator of Department of Law, Dr. Rifat Khan, on behalf of the Department on 14.02.2023 received the price from the Hon’ble Vice-chancellor of Calicut University Sri. M.K Jayaraj for getting 2 nd price in the Procession organised as part of the NAAC team visit. The price money utilized for purchasing various law books to the Department Library.
Visit to District Legal Service Authority as part of Clinical Legal Aid Education
2 nd visit as part of Clinical Legal Education was on 01.02.2023 to the office of the District Legal Service Authority, Calicut. The students of the department interacted with the Chairman, Secretary and para legal volunteers about the functioning of Legal Service Authority. The visit gave an insight about the activities conducted by DLSA as part of Access to Justice to all.
The authorities of DLSA described in detail about the programs conducted by the department to include the people from the marginalised sections of the society to the forefront of the criminal justice administration system.
Legal Awareness Program Conducted in connection with Children’s Day
Technological advancement and change in socio economic conditions often makes children vulnerable to offences. Established criminal syndicates also aims children as an easy target. Inculcation of legal knowledge, Awareness about legal rights from a very young age makes a well-reasoned citizen and help future citizens avert the risk which might be faced by them in the future course.
On 14.11.2022 as part of children’s Day Legal Aid Cell of Department of Law, visited the GMHSS, Calicut University campus and organised a detailed session related with ‘Children and Law’.
Kerala Piravi Celebration
November 1 st , every year celebrates as ‘Kerala Piravi’ to commemorate the Kerala state formation happened on the same day in the year in 1956. The Department of Law observed the day with every festivities. Cultural programs including Kerala’s traditional dance form like Thiruvathira, and Kerala local games were conducted in the department as part of Celebration.

NAAC Procession
The Department of Law actively involved in the NAAC visit related activities of university. The department presented it achievements before the board and arranged everything well for the inspection.
The Law Department team joined in the procession organised as part of NAAC visit. The theme of the Law Department’s plot in the procession was ‘Gender Inclusiveness’. Sri. Moideenkutty, Senior student of the Department was the flag bearer of the department in the procession. The Law Department bagged the 2 nd price in the competition by defeating other well-established departments.
Visit to Central Jail, Kannur, as part of Clinical Legal Aid Education
Clinical Legal Education in the syllabus of LLM to equip the students to face the current realities and trends in Law Enforcement Sector. The visit to Central Prison provided an opportunity to the students as well faculties to know about different methods of punishment and ways employed in reforming the minds of person who committed offences. The Jail Superintendent and Co-ordinator Department of Law, dr. Rifat Khan, were present during the visit.
Induction Program
Induction Program for the batch 2022-2024 was conducted on 31.08.2022. Dr Naseema P.K, Assistant Professor, Aligarh Muslim University Center, Malappuram led the session ‘Law as an instrument of Social Change’.
World Environment Day Celebration
Earth is the only planet in which human survival is possible. Over exploitation of natural resources, increasing human foot print over fragile nature makes the future habitation here more miserable. Climate change and increasing sea levels compels the nation states to
formulate specific plan to face growing problems in our eco system. We often forget about our future generation in the rush run to achieve more economic prosperity.
July 5 celebrated as environment day in world wide to reach the message of sustainable development to everyone. Department of Law, has also observed this day with all its relevance in the campus. Dr. Yusuf, Head, Directorate of Self-Financing Department,
Calicut University, Zerlin, Assistant Professor, Fathima Matha College, Jayalakshmi, National Archaeological Museum were special invitees to the event. Paper presentation related with conservation held in the 2 nd day of celebration. The film ‘Planet’ was also exhibited in the smart room as part of celebration. Trees and greeneries were planted more in the campus to make the ongoing mission of green campus stronger.
Women Day Celebration
Gender Justice is one of the objectives to be achieved through the enactment of our constitution. There are several institutional barriers ahead to fulfil this goal. Though women have progressed to take any responsibility and holds important roles at the helms of affairs
of renowned institution still gender gap is visible in our largely patriarchal society.
Under this context, Department of Law observed women day on 08.03.2022 in the campus. Women centric themes in the seminar session conducted as part of Women Day celebration sensitized the students on the gender disparity in our social milieu. Dr. Rifat
Khan, Dr. Sharmila and Student’s representatives presented their paper in the seminar which was followed by an open talk session.
Mother Language Day
Language is the beautiful medium invented by human beings to communicate. Mother language has a specific role to play in the growth of individuals. Studies pointed out that a person can imbibe more knowledge in his mother tongue than other ones. The scientific
report on the death of local languages is also a case of concern in this regard.
Every year February 21 is celebrated as Mother tongue day to promote its importance in our daily life.
Faculties and students of Department of law on 21.02.2022 took the Mother Language oath and the programs concluded by a series of lectures lead by Coordinator of Department, Dr. Rifat Khan.


WORKSHOP ON PATENT FILING
Workshop on Patent filing was organized by the Department of Law on 28th September 2018 at EMS Seminar Complex, University of Calicut. Dr. IG Rathish, Coordinator, IPR Cell, Assistant Professor, IUCIPR, CUSAT and Arathi Ashok, Assistant Professor, School of Legal Studies, CUSAT delivered lecture on the overview of Patents and Basics of Patent Search.


INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR ON CRIMINOLOGY AND FORENSIC SCIENCE
International Seminar on Criminology and Forensic Science jointly organised by Department of Law, University of Calicut and ICFSA on a focal theme – 'Enhance criminology and forensicscience- ensure justice' has held on 15th and 16th December 2017.The seminar was inaugurated by Hon'ble Justice K Ramakrishnan , Former Judge High Court Of Kerala. Inaugural session was delivered by Hon'ble Vice Chanceller Dr. K Mohamed Basheer.


LEGAL AWARENESS
Department of Law, University of Calicut as a first venture started a one day seminar on legal awareness on 23.08.2016. The seminar was inaugurated by Dr. P. Mohan, Pro-Vice Chancellor, University of Calicut. Special guest was Mr. R.L. Baiju, Sub Judge Calicut.

GST
Department of Law conducted a one day workshop on Transition to Goods and Services Tax on August 16th of 2017. Dr. Ramalingam, Associate Professor, Gulati Institute of Finance and Taxation, Govt. Of kerala, Trivandrum delivered lecture on various issues relating to GST.


E- WASTE MANAGEMENT
Workshop on E-Waste Management was organized by the Department of Law with Malappuram District Legal Services Authority on 29th June 2018. The programme was inaugurated by Sub Judge Malappuram Smt. Mini.
